  HISTORY

The Music

Brotherhood began in 1976 as a Gospel-singing quartet in New Bloomfield, Perry County, Pennsylvania. The group was inspired by the ministry and encouragement of Dave Kyllonen, Neil Enloe and Duane Nicholson — The Couriers.

The first several years the group sang locally in the central Pennsylvania area and then expanded to much of the eastern United States. During that time Brotherhood recorded 10 albums, appeared on the National Quartet Convention, The PTL Club, Canada’s Wonderland, the United States Air Force Academy, Television and the weekly Brotherhood Radio Program and many other major concerts. Brotherhood has sung with with many nationally known gospel groups in 40 states and 7 countries. Having done all that, the group felt that there had to be something more. The group had become successful but suddenly that success was not very gratifying. Then missions began to creep into our conversations. The group felt that there had to be something we could do that would be productive.

The Churches

In 1985 during the Gospel Music Association convention in Nashville, Doug Boyer had a vision and developed a burden for the plight of Native Americans, “the forgotten people.” Brotherhood began traveling to many reservations in the American West. At first it was just the group taking clothing and conducting VBS and evangelistic services. People began to notice this effort that has become known as Brotherhood Native American Outreach. Many became interested and wanted to fit into the program, and many have.

To date, Brotherhood has ministered to the following Native American tribes:

In Arizona: The Apache, Navajo, Hopi, and Popago
In Wyoming: The Shoshone
In Montana: Northern Cheyenne, Teton Sioux, Crow, Assinoboine Sioux, Blackfoot, and Flathead
In North and South Dakota: The Mandan, Arikara, Sioux, and Chipewa
In Southern Utah: The Ute people…and many smaller tribes and clans of the Southwest.

Today

After 25 years, Brotherhood still continues it’s singing ministry today. The emphasis is on Native American Missions. All of the offerings are applied to outreach efforts. The goal is winning souls for Christ. There is a building project each year. Ordinary people: clerks, laborers, dishwashers, physicians, dentists, bank tellers etc. Join us for the annual mission trip. God can use you too!
